U2 is a very popular rock band from Ireland. The rock band consists of four members in the group, which is the lead guitarist and vocalist Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen, Jr. the band was formed 33 years back in 1976. Within 4 years u2 became a sensation amongst masses. The U2 rock band is known for their anthemic notes. There most popular albums consists of The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, Boy, October, War, Under a Blood Red Sky, The Unforgettable Fire, Rattle and Hum, Zoopora, Pop, All That You Can’t Leave Behind, The Best of 1990-2000 and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.

In the beginning the band was named as “Feedback”. Later changed it to “The Hype” and finally settled on “U2″. U2 rock band had five members until one of them named Dick Evans, who was Dave “the edge” Evans brother decide to join the other band. Rest of the members decided to change their names as well. After winning a talent hunt contest u2 rock band started to gain popularity. They gained a jackpot when they were called to sign a worldwide contract with one of the leading company, called Island Records. In 1980, they recorded their first critically acclaimed album, Boy, which became America’s chart buster. Ultimately, today they are the world’s number one band.

Bono, who is the lead guitarist and singer for the band was christened as Paul David Hewson, and is an Irish. Other two members are named David “The Edge’ Evans, who is the guitarist, and plays the keyboard, and is also involved in background vocals and Adam Charles Clayton, who is the bassist, belongs to England. The other member is Lawrence Mullen, Jr., who is the drummer, belongs to Ireland. The idea of forming a rock band was put forward by Larry in his high school days. It is the music and lyrics of the band, big and larger-than-life vocals, which distinguishes them from other bands. Each time the band is able to deliver something new. Their music is embellished with a religious and spiritual image. U2 have been performing in live concerts worldwide. Now they have U2 fan club everywhere.They cite various other known bands and other singers as influences. Names of the U2 rock band members have been mentioned in the rock and roll hall of fame. U2 are involved in campaigning and general awareness programs and they have many times collaborated – as a band and individually as well- with many other musicians, artists, celebrities over issues concerning poverty, social justice, diseases, etc.

Along with releasing the albums under their brand name they also have performed some side projects and recorded songs with other bands. Bono and edge wrote and composed a song for the super hit bond flick Golden Eye in 1995, Adam and Larry did a rework on the title track from the movie Mission Impossible in 1996 and have composed and performed with Beatles, written songs for the flick Spiderman, etc. Aside from musical collaborations u2 have worked with several authors as well. An American author had appeared in the music video of the band named Last Night on Earth. U2 as a band till date are undisputed.

Recipe for Lamb and Cabbage Stew

You can use beef in this recipe if you prefer. The combination of lamb, potatoes, and cabbage is very simple and the cinnamon, cayenne pepper and paprika add a delicious flavor.

Serving homemade yogurt sauce on the side is a great idea and you can make this sauce with just three ingredients. If you are looking for a warming, hearty stew, this one is highly recommended.

What you will need:

1 chopped cabbage 2 lbs lamb stew meat 2 lbs potatoes, in 1 inch slices Ground cinnamon Cayenne pepper Paprika Olive oil Salt and black pepper 4 finely chopped cloves garlic 1 cup plain yogurt

How to make it:

Line the bottom of a slow cooker with the cleaned outer cabbage leaves, and then add the trimmed stew meat and some spices. Layer the potatoes on top followed by half the remaining cabbage. Repeat these layers, finishing with a layer of cabbage leaves.

Drizzle half a cup of water over the top and some olive oil. Cook for six to eight hours on low, or until the meat is tender. Combine the garlic, yogurt, and a third of a teaspoon of salt to make a yogurt sauce. Serve the stew hot with the yogurt sauce on the side.

Recipe for Turkish Pilaf

This simple dish can be prepared without a crockpot if you prefer. Just let the dish simmer for seventeen minutes and serve it. Using a slow cooker brings out the flavors though and improves the texture of this pilaf, so if you have one you can make this recipe in advance and let it slow cook to perfection.

What you will need:

16 oz can chopped tomatoes 2 beef bouillon cubes 1 minced clove garlic 1 teaspoon white sugar 2 cups uncooked instant rice 1 sliced onion 1/4 cup butter 1 bay leaf 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1 cup boiling water

How to make it:

Brown the rice in the butter in a pan, then add the remaining ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil and turn the heat down. Let it simmer for twelve minutes, then transfer everything to the slow cooker and cook on low for two or three hours, or until the rice is tender. Remove the bay leaf and serve.
